“Will you do me a favour?
Please help me find him, Sallie.
I really want to meet him in person
I think I am falling for him too.
This stranger can’t get out of my mind!
I cried last night thinking about him.”
The words above still haunt my mind
after all these years.
Being the editor-in-chief
at that time I was her only hope
I saw how happy she was
every time she read the school organ.
Her secret lover regularly write
in the literary section of the paper
dedicated his poems for this lady                                                                                                                  i
n both English and Filipino.
He sent his contribution by snail mail
addressed in the college I belong to.

The guy also wrote in Teen’s Weekly
to reveal his authentic admiration
to the petite yet beautiful lass I know.
I can still imagine the mental image
of the young woman in love with him
and her eagerness to finally meet him.
His endearment is pure, a sincere affection
as seen in most of his poems and letters
he also wept in silence
as financial status, mean society
and congregational affiliation
kept them apart.

He wanted to say sorry
to the woman he adores for his cowardice
his apology is long overdue
but the reality of being so in love with her
is the very best thing in life
that ever happened to him.
