The lighted wicks
have charmed
the wind—perhaps…
Ah, cest la vie
but the hands of
time stealthily slip through
the thin-waisted
hourglass, unsettling
less than the finest sand
trickling down, akin
to the purest dust,
clinging at the visage and edges
of scattered mementos…
all in vintage gleam,
the undefied portal to
ages past, ah the smell
of hot choco and freshly baked
bread, and the silky velvet
running through the stairs…
and those dashing smiles
unscathed by vain promises.
Now, there's silence…
nothing else.

Author's Note:
There is a time in our lives
when we yearn for something in the past,
that moment can bring both smiles and tears...
becoming a part of us, unstirred.
