The Hand of Fate

Many have crossed that scarlet veil,
Yet few return to tell the tale
Of what they glimpsed on the other side;
What Death's curtain does conceal or hide.

Over the centuries, countless stories were spun,
Of Elysian Fields where clear waters run.
Or Valhalla's Hall, where heroes feast;
Endless vistas where roam wild beasts.

Still others say judgement awaits us all,
As a consequence of mankind's fall.
Some to be rewarded with crowns and jewels,
While others burn as ignorant fools.

We all must make decisions in life,
With edges keen as a well honed knife.
The consequences we'll discover, soon or late;
And receive our due from the hand of fate.
