Acres of Diamonds
Acres Of Diamonds

I read a story…a true story…
About a tired old farmer’s plight…
How he plowed and turned the acres
Until the day gave way to night.

Despite his struggles and his hard work
He couldn’t seem to get ahead.
Yes, He planted, but his harvest
Barely kept his family fed.

Then he overheard a conversation
While seated in the barbershop….
It seemed across the world, in Africa,
They were finding diamonds without stop.

So he sold his land and left his wife
And little children with her kin
To wander over Africa
With this thirst for wealth within.

From one country to the next he trudged…
A penniless and tattered man.
Until somebody found his body…
Laid it to rest beneath the sand.

In the meantime, the same acres
 That this tragic fellow sold…
Kept turning up these shiny stones
For the new owner I am told.
.
He brought home the biggest one…
Chosen his door stop to be...
Until a friend who knew his diamonds
Changed this farmer’s destiny.

The first farmer left his land to find
The treasure in his own backyard.
How ironic ….but preventable
Had he consulted with the Lord.

With the prodigal as his example,
He should have understood this lead
And remembered, there, in Father’s House,
We have all we’ll ever need.

Because Jesus is our diamond…
He’s our silver and our gold.
And His , without the slightest doubt,
Is the richest story ever told!

Matthew 17:2 There he was transfigured
before them. His face shone like the sun,
and his clothes became as white as the light.

Numbers 6:24-26 The LORD bless you and
keep you; the LORD make his face shine on
you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his
face toward you and give you peace."'
