Being Ourselves...

listen closely
to the wind
and you will hear
the voices of those lost
carried on the air
to fly
dying is the cost
some days wish I could been born
different

I see a black bird
he's got quite the eye
quite the stare
looking through me
but he sees me there
and together
we have an understanding
he recognizes me as friend
just as long as there are almonds
and sun-seeds at day's end

I'm his last stop
his first roost
in the morning when he flies to roam
I rise with barely-opened eyes
when he calls me
for his short-order breakfast
together this is how we start
our day

and I'm happy
when he comes around
and makes those sounds
that annoy most every one else

he's chosen me
we like each other
early in the morning
eating breakfast together
on the balcony
talking to  each other
being ourselves.
