Musings by The Poet Loriet

Reeled Back In

You have an uncanny way of knowing
when I need you the most,
and I always take the bait,
fall for you hook, line and sinker.

I felt so alone today,
like the only fish in the sea--
was just drifting off to sleep
when my phone rang,
"Hi baby girl!"

You know I love it
when you call me that,
my Bobby~boo!
You make me smile,
tell me jokes and stories.
I laugh until my sides hurt
and tears roll down my cheeks.

We laugh about your dog's antics
and your little girl's Barbie head
and private jokes we share...
and suddenly, I don't feel so scared.
I feel warm and safe,
and I eat the worm
you dangle in front of me.
Then you hook me.

For the first time in months,
before we hang up the phone,
you say the three words
that take my breath away and
bring tears to my eyes.

Honey, how do you always know
when to bring me back home
to your heart?
Catch me...
I'm falling for you
all over again.
