A TALE I WAS TOLD

A shipload of guys came in on a ship
The one that raised me there on the dock
She bought one a beer held him near
Said his name was called simply Jock

So she took him home just him her alone
Became very friendly seems by dawn
It did'nt take long to sing her his song
A little later I guess then I was born

The great grandson of an old cowboy
Best way to describe me at that time
I grew but I knew old western days true
And that cowboy life follows like a vine

This guys grand wild western dayshad
He's gone but it lived deep within me
She's gone now too no sin it's true
But that life still alive and still as free

Horses old dogs rolling smokes on logs
Boots and shirts and the  riding jeans
Wished I was back there freashest of air
Always a part of my deepest of dreans

Those days had past dreams never last
Many a fight and usually I'd all won
Wrong place and wrong time not divine
This guy never knew what he'd done

I spent time by camp fires under stars
But that was then this is natururally now
A little in me that'll never this life be free
But still alive and in my blood always be

However values run deep vines all creep
And sme things just never ever  change
Loved an old song sang all seems along
Call take me far back out on the range

My hero's were always oldest cowboys
A life been and gone so long seems ago
But the candle of life good times strife
Still burns very well  all  true to know

Guess there's a little still deep in there
Love laughter the telling of a good yarn
Never afraid of hard work a good perk
And sleeping at times alone in the barn

I wrote like I spoke since long long ago
Still do often as I'm now and then able
Never of myself much describing life
Never kissed any girl true called Mable

Some respect for the glory tales story
But good guys a target to often some
One eye on tomorrow signs of sorrow
Always loved fruit including a ripe plum

They say life's what you in life make it
Not true it's what others can make it too
From birth and dying always just trying
Trip once and a bad guys soon got you

Lifes like a tide come in and out all pride
When it's over it's a page in lifes book
Keep an open mind closed learn nothing
When comes R I P look back take a look
