Flee earthly things to pursue love, Be righteous along with patience; Think about things from up above, Along with a godly conscience. Keep the faith and fight the good fight, Take hold of the eternal life; Which has called you into the light, Never be overwhelmed with strife. You have made a good confession, To God who gives life to all things; Your faith in Christ of profession, Of all the goodness that He brings. Keep the commandments without spot, Free from reproach till Christ appears; Because of what His blood had bought, And reason why each one reveres. In the proper time He shall show, Who is the blessed Lord of lords; Who is the King of kings to know, Who lives by the Word not by swords. Who has just immorality, Dwells in unapproachable light; And is filled with iniquity, Walking in the darkest of night. For nobody has seen nor can see, To honor in His dominion; Of the sanctified deity, Within the triune communion. Charge the rich not to be haughty, Nor trusting in uncertain wealth; Be not high minded nor snotty, Rather think of spiritual health. God gives richly to enjoy things, Be generous willing to share; For the rich rewards that it brings, With it showing you really care. Storing treasure for tomorrow, That you may hold eternal life; A method to avoid sorrow, When facing in the midst of strife. Avoid irreverent babbling, Oppositions to false science; Be cautious of any rambling, Contradictions as defiance. Copyright © 2020 Richard Newton Sherrer Vote for this poem
