I remind you be submissive, To rulers and authorities; Obedient and permissive, Think as you set priorities. Be ready in doing good deeds, And speaking evil to no one; Show courtesy to other needs, Willingness what needs to be done. For we ourselves once foolish, Defiant being led astray; Slave to passion feeling coolish, Loving envy to disobey. But goodness and loving kindness, Of God our Savior appeared; Causes a spiritual blindness, That the triune God we revered. He saved us but not by works done, Rather through the mercy and grace; Regeneration through the Son, Upon meeting Him face to face. For God poured out richly through Christ, By His grace being justified; Assisting for to be enticed, To the cross and the crucified. I want to insist on these things, So that anyone who believes; Careful to devote what God brings, For the salvation one receives. Avoid foolish controversies, Any quarrels about the Law; Rivals of genealogies, Acts that would be causing a flaw. A heretic stirs division, After admonitions rejects; Coming from a bad decision, Having nothing more that reflects. Knowing that such of a person, Subverted and warped into sin; Self-condemned that can even worsen, The corruption from deep within. Copyright © 2020 Richard Newton Sherrer Vote for this poem
