A DRAGON KILLED
You killed a dragon long ago
It's crawling, sprawling, spinning what?
To tell a swell or all deny
It died but late but yesterday?
The head apart, the body there
Rolling and making all the noise
As if it had life in its guts
To challenge the Almighty God?
Make more noise; dragon, make more noise
Thy cousined sister hear thee oft
Thy proud self shelling horror off
To be but thy dead self announced
More noise! More noise! Oh, dragon dead!
I linger here to see thy stir
Thou noisy, lifeless thing of threat
And with my sword I do announce
(One immersed deeply in thy blood)
A dragon killed is worth the war
Ten dragons killed worth ten more wars.
