Not seen her for ten years.
It wasn't that I didn't care
just there was never time
For me to go and visit her,
Or I was always working in
Some too distant place,
Life in those days seemed
To move at a much faster pace.
Living in cheap b&b's
Didn't care where I stayed
So long as it was clean didn't
Matter where my head was laid
So long as there was a pub
Not too far away
Where I could drop in and drink
During my every stay.
So many pubs where I was
Greeted by name,
Where old chats were renewed
Every time I came.
Little corners of cities
Where I was well known
With a boozy camaraderie
That over the years had grown.
So, after many pints and chats
Suddenly ten years had passed
Time to review the situation and
Find a fixed base at last.
And I found time to see her
And we both shed tears
Both maybe a little shocked
At the ravages of passing years.
Ten years pastes many lines
On a fondly remembered face
And Memory doesn't allow
For the changes taken place.
The unease passed
The friendship's love recalled
And it wasn't long before
Ten years didn't matter at all
Every process starts with
The first steps taken
Togetherness may cause
Old emotion to awaken.
Two old friends now at peace
With the catching up all done
Time to think of how Friendship
Could develop and move on.
