The Reaper

It seems my waist had thickened
And my hair has turned to gray
While daily aches and pain suggest
I've seen my better day.

The years passed by so quickly
Hardly time to turn around
Which lets me know the Reaper waits
To put me in the ground.

And so, I am reminded of
That unavoidable date
When I must stand before God's throne
And learn my eternal fate.

Looking back, that used to scare me
But I left those days behind
Because I have a lively hope
Which gives me peace of mind.

Even so, I sense his presence
Knowing well he lurks nearby
To take me with him if he can
The moment that I die.

But I know the Lord is Master
And ever in control
Which must perplex the devil that
He cannot steal my soul.

Oh yes, I've seen my better day
And that's okay with me
But I'll not fear the Reaper now
Even though he waits for me.
