Woe Black

Who would have thought that we may still have such trepidation.
Yes, still concerned of being profile based on pigmentation,
Why should there be so much unnecessary scrutiny,
Because of my displaying of so much melanin density.

My progenitors endured the atrocities of slavery,
Bearing those scars that, and being disparaged throughout the century,
We were thinking that through education, there would be some enlightenment,
It seems that that there is still some form of taught resentment.

But throughout all there is still than deep sense of pride,
Even though they are still trying very hard to neutralize,
And it is to my horror when I enter a department store,
All attention is paid to my movement so much more.

Are there afraid of my presence my very existence,
That everywhere I go there is some form of resistance
On can say that there is that constant line of attack,
Perhaps it is quite clear, that is it because I am black.

Is it because of fear, that they think it gives them pleasure,
To put me under every form and feel the weight of pressure,
But because of the number of hurdle that I have to encounter,
What is one more added to that ever increasing number.

This situation shall demand that I must put up a fight,
Even with the barriers, there are things to put right,
Those pioneers line Mr. Lewis, Rosa and of course Mr. King
Were determine in this era to us some hope to bring.

Something that stood out, this occasion was so memorable,
One that brought tears of joy indicating that some barriers were breaking,
Which sort of filled many of our minds with that feeling of confidence,
When a black man was president rose to prominence.

Even in this moment and well fought and achieved scenario,
Many still will not forget that degrading word of negro,
And so whilst they keep feeding themselves from the river of animosity
Even thought it is tough we will find that path to prosperity.

A former leader kept sowing that seed that would divide.
And with those wings he took every opportunity to ride,
Having some gullible ones, he know that will act,
Believing everything he said was very true fact.

Now we can see the action of the police and even citizens,
Reporting on us even shooting without any just cause or reasons,
Thinking that because the skin has such a deep pigment,
Automatically you can be sure there is some criminal intent.

But what is so asinine, and in some ways very hurtful and indeed spiteful,
That some legislatures instead of doing thing that can be to the people beneficial
Spend their time finding ways that when it comes to the next election,
Victory can be assured by means of gerrymandering and voter suppression.
