For Boiled Eggs and Mountains

tonight as I eat my hard-boiled eggs

I find myself grateful

for simple things

even the stink of this egg

as I peel it to sprinkle

Himalayan Sea Salt upon its cooling form

the salt

tasting like butter

and the mountains who made it

those mountains who jut into the face of God

men make complications

and things

and when we are lucky

men and women make art

and music and dance with one another

in peace

but a Great Spirit

made this egg

this buttery taste of salt

and the mountains from which it came

these are not simple

but give simple pleasure

which is so great and

overwhelming as to bring

me joy

a satisfaction

and pictures in my mind

metaphors of goodness and greatness

which provide me with unending peace

Thank you Great Spirit
