It was long ago and far away;
A much simpler time than today.
Before grub hub or cell phone towers,
Before dvds and pcs occupied our hours.

A time before all the electronic gadgets we adore;
Yet weren't we happier in those days of yore?
There were board games to play, and books to read,
Crops to grow, and animals to feed.

Basketballs to dribble and baseballs to throw;
Fireflies to chase when the lights were low.
Picnics and camping out on warm summer nights;
Roller skates, phonographs, conversations by firelight.

Now life seems so stressed, everyone in a hurry.
Ubers, deadlines, airlines, never ending worry.
Ball fields paved over for malls few people shop;
Dvds replace theaters, where will this all stop?

Technology was supposed to bring us all closer together;
Yet each new gadget seems more like a tether.
Separating us, dividing us, each in our own little world;
I long for those simpler times, before this madness unfurled.
