 reflections

sweet Colarado way

lay me down easy
in that colorado sunset
we'll ride until the day breaks
before we lay our heads to rest
the outlaw that we're chasing
goes by the name mad billie mcgraw
legend says he killed twelve men
he won't kill again no more

the stage has been set
as I look to the sky
colarodo's sun won't shine
on you no more
you and I both know
that you aint got long
down in the valley where
the prairie wind blows

the violin's playing its sad sad song
woman dance for you one last time
the mandolin's praying
for the lives that you took
singing to the girl
who's lips taste like wine
dead men haunt your dreams
your dreams wont haunt you no more

the six string shooter
hangs next to me
all we can do remains
would my eyes shine
brighter when this is done
tomorrow comes time to leave
around the mountains I'll be waiting
for that outlaw mad billie mcgraw

we found him down in tecumsen valley
and I drew my breath
with that six shot shooter in my hand
I took out his life in tin pan alley
the snakeman they called mcgraw
died under those mountains that day
and I can now go back to high colorado
back to the sweet colorado way
