Diminishment

In the minds of our leaders
Britain is still militarily great
Instead of just being a small
Offshore of Europe State.
Once an influential power
Living on its past glories
From when it exploited
Its occupied territories.

Technology shrinks distance
Satellites scour the sky
So our time of military might
Is long long gone by,
Except as a junior partner
To give some credibility
To the Land of the Free in
Their frequent hostilities.

In the past we had leaders
Who always led in the field
Not like these modern cowards
Back at the rear well concealed.
So Mr Nameless Politician
As I've said many times before
In the event of future hostilities
Sod off and fight your own war.

Because  it's long past the time
That we passed a law
Putting the leaders at the front
If they lead us into war.
Would talks be more effective
If part of failure carried a cost
That they fought in their own wars
And risked their own lives being lost.
