Outside Arbury

It is all uphill from here.
What is left there, for us?
What lies, to the left
beyond the crest?

Follow between two
worn wheel tracks through
overgrown grass, past near hidden
wireless fence posts, mild markers
of progress, to the top of this hill.

What lies
in that downhill valley
just below, another hill
another promise?

To complete with
broken windows and
abandoned dreams, left here to
compete against shuttered panes
for undivided attention, to what is left.

What lies, at the top
because It's all uphill
from there, again.

It might be better
to stand right here, stand
for something and wait.
