 'Inspiration In Thought'

An Early Autumn Morning

Traveling clouds in the sky I see
Through leaves now touched with gold,
The air is crisp upon my lungs,
As it fills my soul with excitement.

The seasons change again to bring
A newness felt with awe,
The look about is changing fast
As mature leaves ready themselves to pass.

The trees prepare for winter rest
Their yearly work is done,
They'll soon stand bare against the wind
While soaking up the sun.

I watch the furry members dash
Along the Forrest floor,
They have not time to stop and chatter
Their livelihood they now must gather.

Countless birds gather in flocks
Discussing their autumn travel plans,
Some will leave, and some will stay
Their conversation fills the day.

The nights grow chilly soon frost will come
Throughout the Northern Hemisphere,
Snow will fall, it cannot be stopped
As ice and wind play out their parts.

Yet through it all I love this time
As autumn settles in,
Its voice calls out to all who hear
To gather all its children near.

The clouds still travel in hurried pace
Their billowy lines still flow with grace,
Their destination I do not know
As I stand, and watch from far below.

~ I was standing at my kitchen window this morning,
sipping my coffee, while gazing through the leaves of
the huge tree in my backyard and observing wispy clouds
traveling swiftly in the wind. I couldn't help wondering
where they were going and why so quickly. Maybe they were
trying to tell me something, but whatever that might be, I
found inspiration from it to write this poem, the first in
a long while. R.B. ~
