Half Submerged And Waiting

When half the world is half submerged
Which, on a cosmic scale, won't be long
Will the hard core of change deniers
Finally admit they really got it wrong.
For what ever cause or reason
The climate is quickly changing
What ever the cause the effect
Looks likely to be far ranging.

Like a plague of Locusts
From Africa we deployed
Developed and spread
Pillaged and destroyed:
In thanks to the planet
That gave us birth
We tipped the balance
On the beneficent Earth.

Still a planet of beauty
And, as time moved on,
A place of a different beauty
Once we are finally gone,
Maybe half submerged in water,
The Poles again covered in trees,
Maybe waiting once again for
Life to emerge from nurturing seas.
