Leaders in splendid isolatrion
Barely seem to pause for breath
Before they sign those orders
Committing thousands unto death.
For nearly twenty years
They occupied Afghanistan
In an effort to defeat
An obdurate Taliban,
Then suddenly decided,
When the going got tough
It was time to retreat,
That enouth was enough.
Very little thought for
Lives and hopes destroyed
When they withdrew
All those forces deployed.
A country in ruins
A people in despair
Economic sanctions adding
To the chaos left there..
For nearly twenty years
