 reflections

into the sun

image host

he'd fly with her into the sun
fall out of the sky each night
on wings of feathers and wax
ignore the warnings
of those ancient stars
and sink deeper and deeper down
until he plunged into the sea

he'd fly with her into the sun
let love extinguish him
so he might live another life
two lost souls
wandering in frantic equilibrium
too close, too much
eternal in their short time

he'd fly with her into the sun
throw himself into the fiery flames
knowing that all will soon be lost
for the shortest shadow cast
shatters like a two winged god
echoing through the air
devoid of wisdom or truth

he'd fly with her into the sun
watch all that remains burn to ashes
in a symbol of freedom and hope
and like Icarus before him
drawn only by desire
swallowed by the ocean
never to fly again
