Do You Gather Up Your Days The Way Others Collect Wild Butterflies?

********

*********

Have I traded small safety
and daily comforts
to sell out the passion and the possibilities
of my life

Did I ransom my adventures
and the wilder purpose
to be the someone I hoped for
in the corner of someone's eye

Did I collect my best days
only to heal my rainy days
did I tell myself mythologies
and stories to bulldozer-over
the days in which I cried

Do I wish now I could fish now
cast my pole further, much farther
and hook onto the distant dreams
the ones I've mostly slept on
daydreamed in cobwebs
seen in foreign films
caught a corner-glimpse of
felt the tremors of excitement
in the burnings of my heart
or of my thighs

Was my take-away
the easier way
maybe the cowardly way
or did I live your dreamland
why couldn't be mine...
somehow thinking
I required the Gods'permission
to reach for something I desired
in my secret place
made of me a Babylonian
the walking street woman
a lost Amelia Earhart of destiny's lore

It is hard to be a woman
they say
but the are of a woman
not

to be the one with a daring hoping heart
to rise above some designated sex's station
to dare beyond myself
to lose my lonely childhood shame
and not barter with
the lies my family told

To seek and be finally found out
might someone in this universe
become both...
a heart-friend
and my lover-half...
I wasn't searching
but now I desire to be bold

here is my older heart
here in my golden heart
reaching out across the precipice of time and space

there in your long heart
I'd like to reach out now
so hoping to be shown.
