Just send us money monthly,
The TV campaigns plead,
For various worthy causes
Each with its specific need:
Clean drinking water,
Help rescue a cat
Refugees in need,
Causes as varied as that.
And, the wealth gap enlarges
Concentrated in less and less hands
As The ruling elite milk the resources
Of the many and varied lands.
So, the world just keeps on turning,
The dispossessed still starve and die
And nobody seems to think
To ask the question why
The charities keep on asking
The less wealthy for more and more
While, from their state of opulence,
The rich casually ignore
The worsening predicament
Of their fellow man
Because their situation
Just allows that they can.
Nightly the television
Entreats us all to give.
Just twenty pounds a month
Will allow stray dogs to live.
Perhaps in these modern times
That old adage doesn't apply
About the camel, the rich man,
Heaven, and the needle's eye.
