Subservience

I'm a member of the working class
Thankful just to be alive
Grateful the sweat of my brow helps
My betters to survive.
I pay me taxes willingly
I don't have any cares
That my betters routinely
Evade and avoid paying theirs
I serve my social betters
Do all that they could ask
Faithfully and reliably carry out
Their every  appointed task.
Eat the crumbs from their table,
Show them all due respect
Receive the odd recognition
Which is all I can expect.
I live a meagre existence
Struggle from day to day
Show my gratitude for my
Below subsistence rate of pay.
I wave my Union Flag,
Sing God Save Our Queen
And when I slip quietly into death
It'll be as though I've never been.
