On Sunny Days , As I Pose For The Skies 3/17/2022

on sunny days
I look up into the bowl of sky and
strike a pose
I might wonder who or what
billion-mile eye is looking down at me

the balcony I sit in
that narrow little edge of space
suspended under a ledge so small
(yet perhaps just wide enough...)
to offer little protection from a billion-mile stare

above me are flying cameras
launched thoughtlessly, thoughtfully above the earth
could they peer here
would some keen observer manipulate Google earth
to find me here?

I'm the  human bird singing her songs
face planted skyward
gathering vitamin D and a universe of freckles
while imagining the eyes and distant stars above her

do I sing for and fly with
all of the birds near and not surrounding me
do I  dream of other worlds
of prying eyes and far-flung possibilities and

so much so that while I sing and close my eyes
I donate my best billion-watt grin
and then a little eye-twitch and a raised right brow
which is my wink

an answering "hello and how are you?"
for anyone checking in
someone whose life has been lived in the distances too
whether they  exist in my inner space or outerspace
or material or faded-gone-long-ago
but memory-made-indelible

if there's a heaven
the universal eye might click back an answer
to my question
momentarily the sun will seem to hide behind a sheltering cloud
closing like a shutter

striking my pose
as once again
I turn my face upwards
and smile so very wide I meet the stars...
