We have treasure in jars of clay,
Showing the surpassing power;
That we can claim on Judgment Day,
When we meet the Lord that hour.
We are afflicted in every way,
Not crushed nor driven to despair;
Not perplexed since we do obey,
Showing compassion as to care.
Persecuted not forsaken,
Struck down but never destroyed;
His Word often is mistaken,
But the truth always be deployed.
Bearing of His body always,
Jesus might be made manifest;
Even though this body decays,
Your spirit the Father has blest.
So then death is working in you,
But life is inside your spirit;
As your faith always remains true,
For claiming what you inherit.
So we believe and we also speak,
Knowing who has raised up the Lord;
For in His presence as you seek,
What you request is not ignored.
As grace extends to more and more,
That it might increase thanksgiving;
To the glory that will ensure,
Your faith in eternal living.
So we do not ever lose heart,
Though the outer self wastes away;
If your mind enabled to impart,
Your inner self renews each day.
Light affliction is temporary,
Prepares for an eternal weight;
Consider the ordinary,
That your faith will alleviate.
Look not at the things that are seen,
Things that are seen are temporal;
But look to what has been unseen,
As to what has been eternal.
