THE EXIT…a poem by Curran Jeffery

It ain’t an easy world,
Never has been.

We live, we love,
We suffer, we die
And bang, the lights go out.
It’s over.

Cancer, car accidents, old age,
Terrorists—something will get you.

We see this as a great sadness,
Something to fear, weep, morn.

We celebrate birth,
The entrance of new life into the world,
Why not celebrate the great exit?

I no longer fear death.  It’s an exit—
From time, space, flesh,
Into the mystery of spirit.

We had no idea what we were getting into
When we came down our mom’s birth canal.

When you enter the death canal,
You give up your ego.  If you have
Learned love, it won’t hurt so much.
