 reflections

diamonds and dust

image host

the poems that speak the loudest
are the hardest ones to write
just like the day is at its darkest
in the middle of the night
and I can't just get you out of mind
only out of sight
still it makes me pretty angry
that this time we wouldn't fight

they say that loves a diamond
but diamonds turn to dust
and they say that love is precious
but precious metals rust
yet I hoped it might be different
that we'd find a way to trust
not let history just repeat itself
when it always seems it must

the trees are swaying in the wind
as I replay our last goodbye
tears they fall like driving rain
the storm has passed us by
and I wonder what the truth will be
if true friendship ever dies
yet I must confess it broke my heart
that we couldn't even try

I search the words that you once said
before you walked away
ask myself what I could've done
that meant you might've stayed
or was it predetermined
was it juxtaposed with fate
was nothing what it seemed
was it just a big mistake

when the day is done I think of you
could never let you go
you we're always full of passion
you were everything I know
the photographer and the poet
to be fortune's fools no more
yet at times I'm barely breathing
because I miss you so

and like the changing of the seasons
I thought you'd always be my friend
still I wonder if you suffer too
if it really is the end
because I'll always be right here for you
like I should've been back then
and I find myself holding on
that I'll see your face again
