To Be In The Way

birds fly often
whenever they chose
choice being their prerogative
and impulse

imagine
being able NOT
to think
and then doing something
remarkable
with muscle memory
and instinct

I'd like to fly
as birds do
without thought
simply pure impulse
to be able to get out of the way
when you are in the way

how grand
to take your leave
without words
or ceremony

and then not be required
to supply an excuse
or an apology

none of this:
"I'm so sorry
I was in the way..."

Instead:
telling  my wings
"Lift me up and take me away
see how I fly..."

instead,
its the muscle-thought applied
directly to my wings
and then
see how I fly...

off to another place where I can land
I've so many choices
without having to chose
no homing pigeon
with so much to lose

flying off...
is magical thinking in real time

always on the move
forever leaving
with no knots that bind

just fly fly fly
from expectations
accusing eyes
relief from the belief of a need
to apologize
for being as I am

a wreck
in need of fixing

Give me my wings
again,
I' no longer want to be
in the way

(I think I understand,
now,
why some think they can't stay and then
fly fly away.
Its easy--- way too easy.)
