 ramblings and things

Happy Jubilee Your Majesty
You’ve been a beacon of light
As during your reign the country
Had Veered from left to right.
Seventy years of progress
Culminating in ever growing ranks
Of hard pressed workers dependent
On the ever growing food banks.

Most of my life governed by
A privileged wealthy minority
Who’ve used their time in power to
Cement their position of authority.
More and more the country’s wealth
Concentrated in fewer hands
As your realm has moved to being one
Of the Europe’s most unequal lands.

I remember the spirit of hope
As you ascended the throne
Yet seen year by passing year
How that hope and joy has flown.
I have seen the despair increase as,
Led by the selfish and the greedy,
There is more and more repression
Of the poor, the sick, the needy.

In the past I have necessarily stood
On the industrial picket line
And am now seeing our hard won
Workers’ Rights gradually decline.
That land fit for heroes promised
For so many a long past year
Somehow for some reason
Just never seems to appear.

So, Happy Jubilee Your Majesty
But it really is as bad as it looks
As your realm is plundered by
Over privileged wealthy crooks.
I wonder if you ever wonder as
You survey the current scene,
How, with little more compassion,
Different things could have been.

So, Happy Jubilee Ma’am

In spite of the current situation

Of your elected Government bringing

Disrepute on the whole nation

Threatening  to break treaties

They  negotiated and signed

In past ages such scoundrels

Would have honourably resigned
