Rose among the Brambles
I'm sadly reminded once again
how fleeting life can be,
because I never let you know
just what you meant to me.
I found out only days ago
that God had called for you,
which left me absolutely stunned
to know your time was through.
You never knew how much I cared;
no, I don't suppose you did,
because I played close to the vest
and kept my feelings hid.
Which burdens me with deep regret,
having failed to let you know,
given ample opportunity
yet, never saying so.
But I'll always have fond memories
of that one and only you,
a rose among the brambles
who bore a lovely hue.
