 The Shrinking Memory

A shrinking memory's likened to
an islet in the sea
that's losing ground from all around
with nowhere left to be.

Its shores are dwindling by the day
and losing solid ground.
And once bereft, there's nothing left
but water to be found.

Imagine being in a room
with four walls closing in.
the walls express the slow process,
of memory wearing thin.

You lose more words from day to day,
get stuck in conversation,
your damaged brain is in a strain
and baffled to frustration.

Your former routine of the day
got discombobulated;
your funny quips about those slips
were very understated.

The words the mind no longer finds
get lost in varied stages.
Dementia tolls for tragic souls
at different times and ages.
