Poetic Verses
Forgiveness
I've decided to forgive the ones
Who inflicted pain on me
And pray that in releasing them
I too may be set free.
That's what the Bible teaches
So, it's clear what I must do
For if I don't, then why should I
Expect forgiveness too?
For I too need acquittal
From those whom I've done wrong
Since I am just as culpable
And have been for too long.
But forgiveness is a two-way street
A double-edged sword
The give and take of clemency
Which I for years ignored.
By falling prey to bitterness
Toward those I chose to blame
I held on to my spiteful thoughts
Not feeling any shame.
Oh yes, I must forgive the ones
Who inflicted pain on me
And know that in releasing them
I too may be set free.
Who inflicted pain on me
And pray that in releasing them
I too may be set free.
That's what the Bible teaches
So, it's clear what I must do
For if I don't, then why should I
Expect forgiveness too?
For I too need acquittal
From those whom I've done wrong
Since I am just as culpable
And have been for too long.
But forgiveness is a two-way street
A double-edged sword
The give and take of clemency

Toward those I chose to blame

Not feeling any shame.
Oh yes, I must forgive the ones
Who inflicted pain on me
And know that in releasing them
I too may be set free.
