Distance

We never stray far from home
and orbit our wee little world.
We knew someone kept watch.
A safe distance when arguments
started, just wider to gain perspective.

Holy reserve from railing to altar
causes us to genuflect, smoke
enough to see and by faith believe
to stand and touch for ourselves.

We maintain specific gravity
keep one hand held hold
on home places, spinning dizzy.

Avoid forbidden tracts not to
go, discern truth from fiction.

We escape at a silent
mournful distance.

A place where suffering starts.

Break away, until there is

no return.
