Such contradiction of sinners,
Considering Him who has endured;
Not weary to discipliners,
Of the temptations that lured.
For in your struggle against sin,
You never had your blood to shed;
Because you have very thin skin,
Having a body that is dead.
You forgot the exhortation,
That addresses you as a son;
And rather have exploitation,
Of the evil that had been done.
Despise not of the chastening,
Any discipline of the Lord;
Not letting thought be hastening,
And never let it be ignored.
The Lord chastens whom He does love,
Disciplines each son who receives;
It is the discipline thereof,
Shows He cares for one who believes.
God treats you as sons and waters,
As your father would discipline;
Cleansed within baptismal waters,
For doing wrong of what has been.
Earthly fathers, we show respect,
After punishment to correct;
Shall we not much more be subject,
Confessing through prayer to connect.
For they discipline a short time,
As it seemed to be best for them;
A few days chastened for the crime,
God may eternally condemn.
All discipline seems not pleasing,
Rather painful to make one grieve;
Later righteousness is easing;
To the faithful who do believe.
