Poetic Verses

Those Days

My mind always flashed back to older days
To fewer buildings, and that expanse of open spaces
How such tends to fill the pages of my memory
Now fast becoming some part of a tearful history

Then so youthful running up those hills
The wind in the hair, intensifying those boyish thrills
As I came down as such a very rapid rate, no thought of fate
But the intent was to get home before it gets late

Those many time walking the village in the dark
Spotting someone else by that cigarette light that sparks
As one walked along between a growth of cane fields
This brought out an eerie feeling, not a good deal

Around those many homes those many little plots
Of vegetable gardens, dotted many spots
This was a chore the involve the entire family
What fun we had, in those times so very merry

There were times when there was a main water pipe
From this we had to fetch water, be it day or night
But many of the ladies have that knack of balancing a pail
Of water on their heads, this went on for hours without fail

But some had to endure the drudgery of having their houses on lands of the plantation
Access by a vehicle was a very difficult proposition
And if any person got work in another location
Their houses too have would have to go in the same direction
