If anyone aspires,
Office of the overseer;
A noble task desires,
As trustworthy and sincere.
A bishop must be blameless,
Be vigilant and sober;
Having one wife God will bless,
Being of good behavior.
Not being drunken on wine,
Not violent but gentle;
And honoring the Divine,
Not being detrimental.
Not a lover of money,
Never being violent;
God provides him the honey,
To be patient and content.
He has to manage the house,
Giving children dignity;
In harmony with the spouse,
For ensuring gravity.
For if someone does not know,
How to manage his household;
He has to let the church show,
For how the Scriptures have told.
He must not be a novice,
Become puffed up with conceit;
Neutral showing no bias,
Anyone not to mistreat.
He must be reputable,
Well thought of by outsiders;
And being honorable,
Not provoking dividers.
