How I Still Love You

*****************************

I've been roundly criticized for saying
this:

animals are more themselves than people are
that you can depend upon

most idiot humans would say
but
animals are unpredictable
have no brains
no REAL ability to reason
have no feelings etc ad nauseaum...

And
any attempts to explain away their behavior
or actions
is only anthropomorphism
plain and simple

oh really?

have you ever had a cat who
was dying come to you while you were in the tub
bathing and getting ready for work,
who placed both paws on the edge
and bawled His last good-bye to you
while he looked you directly in the eye?

I had that happen
I launched myself out of the cool water
too late
to find Him laying there
eyes glassily opened staring
at the ceiling
his head resting atop of a pile of my dirty clothes

as a Kitten
He'd pull out every pair of my dirty underwear
and pile them up in the sunny place
where he preferred to rest during the daytime...

when I returned home from work
he'd greet me
with dirty underwear in His mouth,
and then
He'd deposit the underwear at my feet
as if to see here you are,
finally!!!!!!!
Why did you take
so damn long to come back to me?!!!!

I told Him often while His ears flickered
"Tigger, I wish you were my boyfriend.."
"Tigger, I am so glad I rescued You..
burnt-whiskered and frightened that day long ago...."
"Tigger, You are my best friend, I love You as You love me
the way We are...."

Sweet Boy, Buddha Buddha Man
Best Friend to the very End

how I still love You
old cranky furry-man
You only broke my heart once
and it WAS
on the day You died.
