In Poverty's Hell

I know Poverty is relative but when
A whole family cant afford to eat
And increasing inflation threatening
A life evicted on the street
And a Government is inflexible
Secure in their Ivory Towers
Threatening impose ever more
Draconian anti-worker powers.

They drove lorries and busses,
Delivered food and the Royal Mail,
Provided all those services without
Which our society would soon fail.
They risked their own lives when
Caring for the dying andthe  sick
So that through the Covid crisis
Society could continue to tick.

We stood in the street and clapped
A grateful nation saying thanks
But not much use really when
Theres nothing left in their banks,
And inflation is surging
Things are getting tough
And present day wages
Just nowhere near enough.

When the only action left is
Strike, by me thats just fine
And I'm so ready and willing
To join them on the Picket Line.
In our two tiered society
The rich are doing so very well,
The masses just existing  in
Poverty's ever increasing hell.
