Fettling The Garden

The IMac's asleep now
For most of the day,
All the Winter distractions
Have been put away.
The lawn's covered with leaves
The grass all muddy and wet
The hedge hasn't started it's
New Spring growth spurt yet.

It's long and it's tall
Always a bit of a test
To get its first trim in before
The birds start to nest.
At least three Blackbird pair
Keep using it each year
Not be long now before
They'll start to appear.

The grass mower's been cleaned
Its batteries have been on charge
When they're stored for the Winter
They soon start to discharge.
I put a small pool in in Summer
The plants have all survived
I noticed just yesterday that
The first frog has arrived.

The days are drawing out,
Soon British Summer Time,
Spring soon be back and
Temperatures start to climb.
Nothing quite so satisfying
As a cool alfresco beer
When the garden's been fettled
And warm evenings are here.

Yes , the garden's been fettled,
All the plants are in bloom
And the garden furniture is now
Part of an extended sitting room,
Sitting out there in the open
When Summer evenings are long
Listening to the whispering trees
And the pleasant rich bird song.
