love is a startled bird
small and trembling
preening her feathers
to instill calm
love is a peacock
strutting and rambling
looking sidelong for recognition
and opportunity
to be well known
love is a mother goose
with her goslings garnering in tow
a repeating pattern of one another
safety in numbers and finding home
love is a butterfly
once a caterpillar awaiting its cue
and bursting forth still shunning what she fears
sensing harshness all around though it rarely wanders near
love is a ladybug
not truly aware she has black spots
and yet carefree she makes her happy way
to every leaf where joyfully she stops
love in spring
seems everywhere
but love in different shapes and varied form
I wish love would land near me
and in the sunshine bake me warm.
( for I am but a winter's child
and winter's been too long...)
