Love Wants What Love Wants re-edited 5/31/023

love wants what it wants

it has polished red talons
and
sculpted muscular arms
see how
it reaches
and holds on

do you remember me
as I remember you
or are we
pixels in our darkness
a lost signal disintegrating

there are rooms in my heart
with doors and a few windows
once in awhile I open them
to let someone in
to my inner chamber

its not an easy choice
my heart's overwrought and overworked
running  on its last races

usually my eyes are veiled
I keep them as curtains pulled and closed
and open them only at night
to let the stars in \
so that I can wish and dream

were you one of those stars
or dreams
were you?
I asked
aloud
and silently
for your answer

I told myself
as a brave sort of comforting
that we share the same stars
whether its daylight or night time...
they are out there twinkling
no matter what the time of day it is

fanciful
you would call me
and full of impracticality
withy my wiry head in the clouds
all-a-tangled

yes I am like that
yes I was and still am but
I make no apologies
for how I am
and how I've offered
my woundedness, my heart to you
and somehow you couldn't take me
by my hand
nor make promises

love wants what love wants
you said
but life takes it away
randomly
and you lose yourself a bit
and your steps unsteady themselves
you were good with words weren't you

indeed
