Musings by The Poet Loriet

Just The Three of Us

Sometimes our kids touch our hearts
in unexpected ways...
like this morning.

I unloaded the dishwasher,
did laundry, went through homework,
packed bags, prepared blackberries
and cream, the kids favorite,
stripped beds to wash sheets,
cut toenails, styled hair and
laid back down exhausted.

My baby girl came in
with an adoring look,
"Mommy, I'm so proud of you.
You're taking care of things
all by yourself,
getting our house in order
and taking care of
me and Collin...

We'll help you, Mommy.
The three of us together,
just the three of us,
will be magnificent
and do great things!"

I had to smile at her
dramatic tone.
She made me feel loved,
awed by her appreciation.

Kids understand.
