I Don't Understand!
It's beyond my comprehension,
All they did in the war,
Gassings, hangings, shootings,
Does anyone know what for?
I can't believe it happened,
People being shot for fun,
And all because Amon Goeth…
Liked toying with his gun!
Death beyond all reasoning,
Stripped and left to die!
Couldn't they hear the children weeping?
Nor hear their mothers cry?
As I look around me…
Over 50 years on…
I know, through others insight,
All of what was done!
I read the survivors stories,
They moved me to many tears,
Re-living all they went through,
Their sadness and their fears!
Tears well up inside me,
It breaks my heart each day…
To know that innocent people died,
In such a horrific way!
I can't hide my feelings,
For it doesn't matter to me…
What religion, colour or creed,
These people happened to be!
It could have been just anyone,
It was so wrong and bad,
Don't shut your eyes and ears!
It happened! And that's truly sad!
I sit and think about it,
How must have these people feel,
So horrendous, so awful,
Something so unreal!
It should never have happened!
It should have been stopped from the start!
It should be told, over and over,
How these murderers had no heart!!!
