Musings by The Poet Loriet

Lifestyles Of The...

My friend, Beth, handed me
the June 16, 2003 issue of People
and said, "Don't cry, Lori, but
you're going to love this story."
I read the title, "Former ED star,
Rena Sofer and her 007 groom
get hitched in Malibu,"
and I try not to roll my eyes,
another Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
article that will make me ill,

but I quickly lose my sarcasm
and become the sap that I am
as I read about how he invited her
to a friend's party after staging an argument
with her about neglecting their friends.
There was no party.

She walked into the hotel room
to find one hundred lit candles,
dozens and dozens of roses,
and her guy on one knee
slipping a three-carat diamond
and platinum ring on her finger
after her tearful yes.

But what really made
tears well in my eyes
was reading how he presented
her 6 year old daughter, Rosabel,
with a tiny silver version
of her mommy's ring asking her,
"Will you be my step-daughter?,"

and I had to immediately ask myself:
On what planet do you find
guys like that and what's
the quickest way there?
