Musings by The Poet Loriet
Still A Secret
I'll never forget how
you pulled me close,
embraced me on the sidewalk,
brushed strands of hair away,
and with your mouth to my ear,
whispered, "I love you."
Families walked by and
my kids raced to the van,
their giggles adrift on the breeze.
No one noticed our secret embrace.
It was just you and me,
ten seconds where the world vanished
and time stood still~
along with my heart
(which skipped a few beats).
The town carnival frolicked on
the other side of the street,
blinking lights and screaming lauhter,
summer already in the air,
neon sunset splashed with purple,
the ideal backdrop for us,
silhouetted in the doorway...
I was already feeling as happy
as a littkle girl,
and I know that it wasn't
the rides that made my
heart flutter so wildly.
It was you,
your kiss on my cheek,
your hug, whispered
words of love, and the way
you held my hand,
our fingers brushing
as I walked away
with a song in my heart
and your cologne
clinging to my body
like a spirited ghost,
...and I dreamt
about you and me
and the magic way
you make the world
dissapear
when I'm inside
one of your hugs.
I love you too.
Those are the words
I was too stunned to say,
the ones that had been lingering
on the tip of my tongue,
and you just gave them life.
I can't wait to tell you my secret.
