Musings by The Poet Loriet

Fear of Falling

I used to love roller coasters,
the unexpected twists,
the feeling of your heart in your throat,
butterflies in your stomach,
uncontrollable screams of pleasure.

I used to love being in love too,
but as I get older,
I discover it's not a good thing
to close your eyes and
let go of the handles.

I need to study the course
before the lap bar locks me in--
because at my age,
going too fast through
the loops and twists
tends to make me very ill.
