 Penniluck's legacy

Doomed.

As I watched the news today
Heard leaders of the world.
I could not believe their tale
As slowly it unfurled.
The spokesman said with tearful eyes
I feel almost unable
To tell you all our lives are doomed
As we sit as this table.
But someone has to say the words
Today is our last day.
We have ruined Planet Earth
So let us kneel and pray.
I rang my family and my friends
And begged them come and see
Let`s live this time together
The way that it should be.
My family called their families,
Friends, their neighbours and they came.
Someone said, let`s party now
Another said, Oh shame!
All around were little children
Playing gleefully.
They did not know the time grew near
When they`d no longer be.
We cuddled close together
We reminisced, we cried
God why let this happen
And many people sighed.
The wine flew free, the noise grew loud
From neighbours in the street.
Let us join them someone said
And for the first time meet
Those neighbours we have lived beside
For oh so many years
We do not know their names you know
We cried through our tears.
Too bad that we should wait `till now
To find out people care
That they are only human
And when needed would be there.
What good now the test tube babe
The heart transplant, the clone.
We know now we should have left
Our good old earth alone.

The street was full, nowhere to run
And so we watched the sky
And introduced each other
As we all lay down to die.
