Society says I`m old now
And yes, I feel that way.
I`ve worked hard all my life
And now I`ve had my day.
The State gives me a pension
But I find it hard to cope.
Don`t get me wrong, I`m grateful
And never give up hope.
But winters do seem colder
And coal is awfully dear.
So I`m careful with my money
And wish the spring was here.
I get a bit confused now
With all these forms to fill
The council tax and D.S.S.
Sometimes it makes me ill.
I don`t want to die yet
But maybe when I do
I`ll stop being a burden
On both the State and you.
I`ve spent a lot of time on earth
And `though I`m old and grey
I wish the world would realize
I`ve got a lot to say.
Muddled I might be at times
But I`ve got a lot to give.
Give me back my Dignity
And I`ll show you how to live.
